Mountlake Terrace won its third straight soccer match by defeating Oak Harbor High School 4-1 Tuesday, Oct. 9, at Wildcat Memorial Stadium.
Hawk coach Jerry Myers told Oak Harbor coach Jeff Laiblin his club is starting to jell after a slow start, and the Wildcats felt it first hand as Terrace jumped to a 4-0 lead.
It took the Hawks (3-5, 4-6-1) only six minutes to score, then added goals in the 14th and 32nd minute for a 3-0 halftime lead.
Mckenzie Schneider scored Oak Harbor’s goal with eight minutes left with a header off a free kick from Lauryn Plush.
Laiblin called his club’s play “much better” than its
previous match last week.
Laiblin said the Wildcats applied “much more offensive pressure” and created more scoring opportunities than the past several match combined.
He added that his center-mids, a combination of Haley Lundstrom, Ayla Muller, Schneider and Jember Jansen, played “by far their best game.”
The Wildcats continued to play shorthanded, missing five varsity players because of injury. Laiblin said one is out for the year but two should rejoin the rotation soon.
Oak Harbor (0-8, 1-9-1) heads to Glacier Peak (1-6, 1-8-2) for a 7 p.m. match Thursday, Oct. 11.
