The Oak Harbor girls’ soccer team played Snohomish tough until late in the match in a 5-0 loss at Wildcat Memorial Stadium Thursday.

The Wildcats, which lack depth to start with, were hindered by illness. Coach Jeff Laiblin said, “The bench play was strong,” but he wasn’t able to give all the players they rest they needed. “We just ran out of gas,” he said.

It was 0-0 until late in the first half when Oak Harbor scored an own-goal. Laiblin said his team “lost its rhythm” by the mistake and gave up another goal before it could right itself.

Laiblin said fatigue set in late in the game when Snohomish tacked on three more scores, two coming off ricochets.

Laiblin said his team has improved in all key statistical areas the past four games. He added, “They continue to fight to the end; they are not quitting.”

Oak Harbor is now 0-8. Monroe comes to Wildcat Memorial Stadium Tuesday for a 7:30 match.
