A goal by Nathan Lamb and a stingy defense lifted the Coupeville soccer team a 1-0 win over visiting Meridian Wednesday, May 2, in the district playoffs and into the tri-district tournament.

Coupeville (10-7) journeys to Sammamish High School at 5 p.m. Saturday, May 5, for a match with the No. 3 seed from District 2.

After a fairly even first half, Coupeville picked up the offensive pressure in the second period and Lamb drilled in the game winner in the 56th minute. In heavy traffic, Lamb cleared himself with shifty ball handling and fired in the shot from 12 yards out.

Coach Paul Mendes said, “The win is a credit to our defense. They have two very dangerous players and we marked them well.”

Kole Kellison earned the shutout in goal against the Trojans (4-12-1).

Mendes added, “It’s nice to win on a typical Lamb goal.”
