South Whidbey’s finish was stronger than Oak Harbor’s start, and the Falcons defeated the visiting Wildcat tennis team 5-2 Wednesday, March 16.

South Whidbey’s finish was stronger than Oak Harbor’s start, and the Falcons defeated the visiting Wildcat tennis team 5-2 Wednesday, March 16.

In four of the matches, South Whidbey dropped the first set but came back to win the final two to claim victory.

Oak Harbor earned its points in second and third singles where AnnaBelle Whitefoot (6-3, 6-2) and Lauren Aspery (6-4, 5-7, 6-3) won.

“Things started well with three of the four singles players and all three of the doubles teams winning their first set, then the momentum switched to South Whidbey in first singles and all three of the doubles matches,” Oak Harbor coach Horace Mells said. “Our players were not able to regain and maintain control of the matches long enough for the win. Congratulation to South Whidbey, who clearly outplayed us today.”

Oak Harbor (0-2) plays at Lynnwood at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, March 17.
