Christine Eborda walked out of Albertson’s grocery store to a big pink surprise Saturday afternoon.

The Oak Harbor resident, who was diagnosed in November with stage IV cancer, was treated to a flash mob performance to Pharrell’s “Happy.”

The dance was coordinated by her sister Terri Guster.

The mob, comprised of more than 30 dancers, was decked out in various shades of pink in support of breast cancer awareness.

Guster said she decided to coordinate the dance “because there’s times when (Eborda) is feeling really down.”

“We chose it because it’s a happy song … and I want my sister to be happy no matter what,” Guster said.

Guster and Eborda attend dance fitness classes together at North End Fitness Center, which is where Guster got the idea. The flash mob was formed out of their new organization, Clariza’s Cause, a group of roughly 90 people who are supporting Eborda through her cancer treatments.

The dance was choreographed by Bernice Manglona. Friends Jessica Hawke, Brenna Weber, Dorothy Johnson, Stephanie Steffy and Crystal Simmons assisted with planning and costumes.

“For a month I could see that she was hiding something,” Eborda said.

“It surprised me. I was a crying mess.”

Despite some wind gusts and a chance of rain, Guster said she believes the dance staged in the middle of the grocery parking lot went well.

“It was kind of crazy; with the wind, clothing was everywhere,” Guster said. “We didn’t know what to expect but it turned out really well.”

Eborda was overcome with tears at the sight of her sister and friends dancing just to make her smile.

“I’m so humbled; there were people there I didn’t even know,” Eborda said. “It was beautiful.”

“I just want to say thank you to everyone. It’s so overwhelming.

“There’s so much support around here, it’s crazy.”
