The Oak Harbor High School boys golf team finished tied for fifth in the Northwest District 1 Tournament Monday, May 19, at the Everett Golf and Country Club.
Also, four Wildcats made the cut and will advance to the second day of the tournament at 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 20.
The first-day scores determined the team champion; the two-day scores will determine the individual champion and which 14 qualify for the state tournament.
Meadowdale captured the team title with 405 strokes, followed by Stanwood (413), Shorewood (431), Ferndale (432), Oak Harbor (440) and Marysville Getchell (440) in the 11-team tournament.
Mac Kerfoot led Oak Harbor with an 82, good for 14th in the individual race. Trent Jones of Shorecrest paced the field of 48 with a 72.
Steven Timm, who entered the tournament as Oak Harbor’s No. 5 golfer, shot an 84 (19th place), Hunter Adams 87 (23rd) and Mason Dieter 93 (36th) to make the cut.
“Steven shot very steady today and made the cut with room to spare,” coach David Smith said.
Raiden Poe missed by one shot with a 94; Aaron Kelley shot a 100.
“It was a very tough day all around,” Smith said. “The greens were quick, and it is a course that demands good shots off the tee.”
“Based on the scores, my top three have a good chance of making state,” he added.
