Strong pitching and solid offensive output throughout the lineup carried the North Whidbey Little League Rockies to a 12-2, four-inning win over Alfy’s Pizza of Sedro-Woolley in the Tesarik Tournament in Sedro-Woolley Monday, June 3.
The Rockies, 2-1 in the tournament, play another elimination game at 6 p.m. Wednesday, June 5.
Rockie starting pitcher Micah Franklin gave up only one hit and struck out the other seven batters he faced in two and a third innings of work.
The offense gave him plenty of support as the Rockies bolted to a 5-0 first-inning lead.
Nick Krantz and Shane Vogt singled to start the first, then Franklin walked to load the bases. Trevor Sheils followed with a run-scoring single and Connor Buenaventura singled in two more. Three consecutive walks pushed in two more runs.
The Rockies scored three more in the second. Vogt singled, Franklin doubled and Sheils tripled to score two runs, then Buenaventura drove in the third run on a fielder’s choice.
Sedro-Woolley recorded its two runs in the third, but relief pitcher Joe Dixon limited the damage ending the inning with a strikeout and pop-up. He added two more Ks in the fourth.
The Rockies 10-runned Sedro-Woolley with four runs in the fourth.
With Franklin and Dixon aboard, Sheils ripped his second triple to score two. Buenaventura singled in Sheils for his fourth RBI. Andrew Dixon walked, then singles by Krantz and Vogt finished the scoring.
The results of the other North Whidbey games Monday were not reported.
