Hard game ends a great season

It was a hard game to witness the loss against Bothell last Friday. There was a lot of “talk” back and forth between the two communities on the various blogs this past week. And it got ugly at times.

The feelings that we are left with might make it hard for some to root for Bothell in the demi-ginals. Their chat of “overrated” by their fans towards our team was shocking to hear. Their “pearl” of a stadium was actually one of the worst I’ve seen these past years. The field reminded me of the turf we use to see on TV from the old Kingdome and the stands were terrible. Too bad we could not have gotten extra rented seats and had the game here.

Our team had a great year. Undefeated through the regular season, this team and the fans can be very proud of how our boys played. I remember a letter to the editor from a grandfather of an opposing team player who got hurt and how our guys showed concern and sportsmanship. Even taking it a step further by our player approaching this grandson to make sure he was okay. That attitude is not something you get off a coach’s blackboard Xs and Os. Parents and families should be proud of their values that show up in the players on and off the field. I salute parents, families and the community for those values and hope that continues for the new crop of Wildcats waiting in the wings.

While I don’t have kids in the school system, I have become a big fan supporting our kids. We can be and should be very proud of our team and coaches.
