That’s a whole lot of zeroes.

Zach Forland, Coupeville High School goalie, recorded his second consecutive shutout, including two sets of overtime periods, to boost the Wolves to a 1-0 shootout win over host Sultan Friday, April 6.

Assistant coach Gary Manker, subbing for Paul Mendes who was tending to a family matter, said Forland “was a strong presence in the net.”

He added, “It has been a total team effort on defense and we continue to work hard, locking down our opponents’ attacks. Our offense created chances all night long and kept Sultan’s defense scrambling.”

After the scoreless regulation and overtime periods, Coupeville fired home all four of its attempts in the shootout thanks to Josh Wilsey, Nathan Lamb, Luke Pelant and JP Ward.

Sultan (0-6, 0-8) responded by netting its first two but had the next pair bounce off the crossbar, according to Manker.

Manker said, “It is difficult to win on the road in this league and I am proud of our team’s ability to stay strong and focused through yet another intense game.”

Coupeville (2-3, 3-3) plays Lakewood (2-4, 3-4) at 6 p.m. Monday, April 9, at Mickey Clark Field.
