After months of searching, Whidbey Island Public Hospital District Board of Commissioners filled a vacancy.

During a special meeting of the commissioners Anne Tarrant, Grethe Cammermeyer, Georgia Gardner and Ron Wallin selected Nancy Fey to fill the position vacated by longtime member Roger Case, who retired in June.

Fey is a North Whidbey resident and a former pharmacist who worked at the hospital. She was also the owner of a party store in Oak Harbor.

Fey is also a member of the Soroptimist International of Oak Harbor, the Polly Harpole Hospital Guild and she is president of the Whidbey General Hospital Auxiliary.

Fey could not be reached by press time for comment.

Whidbey General Hospital officials have searched for a new commissioner since Case announced his retirement. His term was scheduled to expire at the end of the year.

Nobody signed up for the vacancy during the filing period in May or a special filing period held in June.

Fey is scheduled to be sworn in during the Whidbey General Hospital commissioners’ next meeting, which starts at 5 p.m. Aug. 12 in Conference Room A at the hospital.
