The Oak Harbor Babe Ruth baseball team split a pair of games with Mount Vernon this week, losing 6-3 and then picking up its first win, 11-5, Thursday, May 15.
Defensive mistakes hurt Oak Harbor in the first game, but the team’s hitting showed improvement, according to coach Pete Richter.
Cory Roberts was 2-for-3 with a double; and Chris Trisler, Will Danielson and James Besaw each collected hits.
In the second game, Oak Harbor “hit the ball or got on via base on balls at the right times,” Richter said.
Trisler was 2-for-3, and Thomas Anderson, Caleb Fitzgerald, Hunter Smith and Roberts each rapped timely hits.
Richter said his team is “also having success with discipline at the plate but attacking the strike zone, putting the ball into play and eliminating strikeouts.”
Oak Harbor had only four strikeouts in the game.
“We are getting better and have many players improving daily,” Richter said.
Oak Harbor goes to Friday Harbor for an 11 a.m. double header Saturday, May 17.
