The start of the new year brought new leadership to the Town of Coupeville.

And with that change, the new council appointed a new backup for Mayor Molly Hughes.

Councilwoman Diane Binder will be the mayor pro tem for the first six months of 2016.

Per Coupeville Town Code, the council elects someone for the position every six months.

In the event the mayor is out of town or unable to attend to town business, the mayor pro tem serves as mayor.
