The Wildcats swam to an 88-88 tie against traditionally tough Kamiak High School Thursday at the Knights’ pool.
Although it wasn’t a win, coach Erika Miller said she was happy with her team’s performance. “Historically they have handled us pretty well; it was a nice swim.”
The Wildcats actually won the swimming portion of the meet, capturing nine of the 12 events, but gave up all the diving points to the Knights because, as Miller put it, “Our divers aren’t quite ready to compete yet.” Also, Oak Harbor was without one of its top swimmers, Karina Concepcion, who was ill.
Miller was particularly happy about three races. First, Oak Harbor’s sweep of the 100 breaststroke as Laura Rosen (1:12.66), Ciara Hu, and Cassie Stanford went one, two, three. Next was Rosen’s state qualifying time of 2:14.38 in winning the 200 IM, and, finally, Therese Desquitado’s time of 27.17 while finishing second in the 50 free.
Rachel Weinstein won the 200 free (2:07.67) and 500 free (5:41.33), and Akasha Trisler took the 100 backstroke (1:04.77). Hu (1:01.93) and Trisler went one-two in the 100 fly.
Trisler, Rosen, Hue, and Tori Nickerson won the 200 relay (2:01.02), and Hu, Weinstein, Rosen, and Desquitado took the 400 free relay (3:58.98).
Oak Harbor takes on Burlington-Edison a 6 at John Vanderzicht pool Monday.
