Former Oak Harbor High School golfer Phil Reedy carded a 36-hole score of 149 to finish fifth in the Washington Junior Golf Association’s District Championship held July 20 and 21 at the Dungeness Golf Course in Sequim.
The score qualified him for the 2009 WJGA state championship match scheduled for July 29 through July 31 in Bellevue.
Reedy fired a round of 74 on the opening day of the tournament and came back with a 75 in the second round.
Also participating in the tournament from Oak Harbor were Ashley Johnson, Melany Cone, Simone Hamilton and Braandon Kenworthy.
Johnson had a tough time with the trees on the first day of the tournament to card an 85, but came back strong on the second day shooting a 2-over-par 39 on the back 9 for an 18-hole total of 82.
Only the top two female golfers qualify and unfortunately, Johnson’s 167 failed to make the cut.
Cone shot an 85 on the first day and 98 the second day and also didn’t qualify with a score of 183 strokes.
Hamilton withdrew from the tournament as did Kenworthy.
Connor Miele from Everett earned medalist honors in the boys half of the tournament with a two-day total of 144 strokes.
Bellingham’s Jessica Davis carded a 152 to earn girls medalist honors.
