Shorecrest used its size and shooting range to defeat the Oak Harbor High School boys basketball team 68-51 Tuesday, Dec. 6, in Shoreline.

The bigger Scots out rebounded Oak Harbor 39-30 and had a 14-6 edge in offensive boards.

Shorecrest also drained eight of 21 three points shots while the Wildcats hit just two of 13. Oak Harbor also struggled at the line, hitting only nine of 21 tries.

Oak Harbor, however, did shot well inside the arc, dropping in 18 of 31 two-pointers (58 percent), but was limited to only four second-chance points while the Scots picked up 17.

Junior Chibuogwu led the way for the Scots. The 6-6 forward hurt Oak Harbor from the outside with four three-pointers and inside where he added six more buckets on the way to a game-high 24 points and nine rebounds.

Shorecrest (1-0, 1-1) zipped to a 12-2 lead, then Oak Harbor recovered to narrow the gap to 14-12 before the Scots ended the quarter up 17-12.

The margin hovered between five and 10 points the remainder of the evening, and Oak Harbor was within seven in the fourth quarter until Shorecrest finished with a rush.

Shorecrest led 27-19 at the half and 46-36 after three periods.

Coach Mike Washington Sr. said, “The game was much closer than the final score indicates…Their size wore us down, three kids at least 6-6. But our kids kept fighting.

We were also stymied a couple times by their press in the fourth quarter.”

He added, “I am happy with our progress from last game to this game…We shot the ball well, too, so that is a good sign.”

Mike Washington Jr. scored 14 points for Oak Harbor; his sophomore brother Drew added 12.

Kevawn Brooks had eight points, eight rebounds and three blocked shots.

Cameron Faulkner grabbed eight boards and scored four points.

Elias Whitefoot finished with five points, Matt Burgoyne four, Jamacio Webster two and Zach Gibbs two.
