The Coupeville girls’ soccer team fell 2-0 at King’s Tuesday, but it was only a loss on the scoreboard, according to CHS coach Mike Thornton.
Earlier this year the Wolves fell to the Knights 6-0. Tuesday’s 2-0 loss was the closest Coupeville has ever come to the state powerhouse, and Thornton was pleased with his team’s “no quit attitude.”
Thornton praised the play of the defensive line of Amanda d’Almeida, Anna Bailey, Casey Andrews, and Brittany Johnson. Wolves’ goalkeeper Ashley Manker shut down the Knights in the second half even though they put more players up front.
Other players who stood out, Thornton said, were Amanda Montana and Courtney Boyd.
The Wolves had several chances to score, the best coming on a breakaway by Caitlin Phillips. The King’s goalie made a fingertip save to preserve the shutout.
