Micah Geist won the featured event at the Whidbey Island Swim Championships Tuesday, Aug. 23, at John Vanderzicht Memorial Pool.
Geist, 18, captured the Lifeguard 100, winning the 100-meter freestyle race in 1:04.85, followed by Cole McCaslin, 19 (1:05.81), and Erica Sugatan, 17 (1:08.64).
Overall, North Whidbey Aquatic Club coach Dick Taylor said the event went well.
“We only decided to do this meet roughly five weeks before holding it,” he said. “We went ahead with it more as a dry run for next year than anything. Next year we hope to get more swim-lesson participants.”
The goal, he said, was to give those who recently finished taking swim lessons a taste of competitive swimming.
