A 52-year-old Oak Harbor man accused of shooting a Fidalgo Island resident two weeks ago is facing a single count of first-degree assault with a deadly weapon, according to documents filed in Skagit County Superior Court.

Bobby Davis is being held in Skagit County Jail on $150,000 bail. He was charged March 19. Deputies with the Skagit and Island County sheriff’s offices arrested him last week at the North Whidbey home he shares with his parents.

Fred Manvellor, a 49-year-old resident of Lunz Road on Fidalgo, reported that a stranger came to his door on March 13 and attacked him, saying it was for hurting his family. The bearded man tried to force his way in and fired two shots at Manvellor through the front door, according to the probable cause affidavit written by a Skagit County detective.

The gunman chased Manvellor into and then outside the house and fired two or three more shots before driving away in an SUV, the detective wrote. A woman who lives in the house said she saw the gunman and heard him accuse Manvellor of hurting a girl.

Tom Molitor, chief criminal deputy with the Skagit County Sheriff’s Office, said two bullets from the small-caliber handgun hit Manvellor in the extremities, causing injuries that were not life threatening. Manvellor was transported to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle for treatment. He has since been released.

Detectives were able to connect Davis to the shooting through a teenage girl.

According to detective’s report, Manvellor is involved in an ongoing anti-harassment order involving Davis’ 16-year-old stepsister. Davis allegedly acted to protect the girl.

The detectives and deputies served the search warrant on Davis’ Frostad Road home March 15 and seized several firearms, according to Molitor. Davis’ girlfriend told a detective that Davis had admitted to shooting through a door at Manvellor’s home, the report indicates.

Davis was originally arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, but was ultimately charged with first-degree assault.
