Soccer, roller hockey offered

The North Whidbey Park and Recreation District is offering an eight-week Kidz Love Soccer school beginning Sept. 27.

Classes include parent/child through age 12.

The fee is $60 and shin guards are required.

Classes meet every Saturday through Nov. 15.

The North Whidbey Park and Recreation District is also seeking volunteers to assist with the development of a new roller hockey program in Oak Harbor.

The district has recently received permission to develop a rink on school district property near the Chamber of Commerce building.

Equipment has also been purchased to be able to start an instructional program.

Holmes Harbor gun show

The Holmes Harbor Rod and Gun Club is hosting it’s annual gun and sportsman’s sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 28, in the club’s trophy room, 3334 Brooks Hill Rd. in Langley.

Among the items available at the sale are firearms of all types, ammunition, shooting supplies, knives, optics, reloading gear and much more.

Admission is free to rod and gun club members, and just a $1 donation for the rest of the public.

Those having items to sell may rent a table for $10 ($15 for non-members), or you can place items on a consignment table for a small fee.

Space is available outside the club for boats, trailers and any other large items, for a $5 fee.

Food is available at the club and the trap, skeet and sporting clay ranges will be open for those who want to make a day of it.

Fall tryouts for NWAC

The North Whidbey Aquatic Club (NWAC) is holding free tryouts during the month of September.

Those interested in becoming a club member can attend on Monday, Tuesday, or Thursday from 4:45 to 5:30 p.m. at John Vanderzicht Memorial Pool.

Minimum requirements are the ability to swim 25 meters in freestyle and backstroke.

Swimmers from 6 to 18 are welcome and the first two weeks are free.
