Oak Harbor picked up an impressive win to start the Wesco soccer season, defeating host Marysville Getchell 2-1 Tuesday, March 25.
The Wesco North expects to be highly competitive this spring, and any win, especially on the road, will be hard to come by.
“We played well and it was pretty much a team effort,” said coach Brian Thompson.
Gavin Stewart scored first for Oak Harbor off an assist from J.J. Mitchell. The pair flipped roles later in the match with Stewart assisting on a Mitchell goal.
Oak Harbor’s offense dominated the match, out-shooting the Chargers 2-to-1, according to Thompson.
In addition to the two goals, the Wildcats had several close calls and a score by Caley Powers called back because of off sides.
“Our defense was working hard and kept them from scoring by shutting down Devon Green, who had a lot of speed and skill,” Thompson said.
Oak Harbor (1-0, 2-0-1) takes on Everett (0-1, 0-3-1) at 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 28, at Wildcat Memorial Stadium.
