MICHELE KEMPEES will be the featured artist at Christopher’s Restaurant in Coupeville for the months of July and August. Winner of the Coupeville Festival poster this year, she is a self-taught artist in various media but has settled on watercolor as her favorite.   Children in their natural settings are what she enjoys the most. Join author, teacher and psychotherapist CAMI OSTMAN at the July Whidbey Island Writers Association meeting July 17 and learn about different types of writers and how your type can create optimal work habits.  The writers’ workshop is from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Northwest Institute of Literary Arts, located at the Old Bayview School at 5611 Bayview Road in Langley. A silence art auction for a large collection of JAN HOLMES’ watercolor paintings will be held noon-6 p.m., July 5, at the Coupeville Rec Hall. Holmes, who died in December of 2011, was a longtime Coupeville resident and was well-known across Whidbey Island. She owned Toby’s Tavern in Coupeville for 10 years with her husband, Steve, and her artwork was featured at Penn Cove Gallery. The auction will feature art that Holmes painted in Whidbey Island, Mexico, Tuscany, France, Canada, Cuba and other places that she visited.
