Nine Washington state legislators received the Outstanding Legislator Award, including Rep. Norma Smith, R-Clinton.
The Community Employment Alliance announced its list at an awards luncheon in Seattle on Oct. 5.
The Outstanding Legislator Award honors Washington state legislators that have made exceptional efforts to support employment for people with disabilities.
“The ability to contribute to the communities in which we live is important to all of us. The individuals involved in supported employment programs simply want the opportunity to do meaningful work, be independent and contribute their unique talents and skills to our communities. In doing so, we all benefit. These programs have been successful in making their hopes a reality, and I will continue to be a strong advocate,” Smith said.
The Community Employment Alliance is a nonprofit advocacy organization with a membership network of 50 businesses and employment service providers
throughout Washington. Its members provide services to more than 10,000 people with disabilities each year. The alliance’s mission is to advocate, educate and partner for employment opportunities for people with disabilities.
