Oak Harbor High School senior David Ray signed a letter of intent Tuesday to play football for Midland University (Fremont, Neb.).
Midland, an NAIA school, offered Ray an athletic scholarship two weeks ago.
“It’s definitely a great school, a great campus,” Ray said.
“I am happy for the opportunity to keep playing football,” he added. “This came from the guidance and support of my family and coaches.”
Ray moved to Oak Harbor from Tennessee midway through his junior year. His high school coach in Tennessee now works for Midland and led the effort to recruit Ray for the Warriors.
Oak Harbor High School football coach Jay Turner described Ray as “a winner.”
“The guy will do anything it takes to help the team,” Turner said. “He is one of the hardest working kids we have had come through here. He is constantly doing everything it takes to improve himself and the team.”
Ray, a 5-foot-10, 150-pound wide receiver, also played basketball for Oak Harbor and is currently on the track team.
Ray, who carries a 3.77 GPA, hopes to major in math or computer science at Midland.
Midland is a private liberal arts college of about 1,300 students and fields 27 varsity team, the most of any Nebraska school.
