Central Whidbey Hearts & Hammers is gearing up for 2010.

Hearts & Hammers is an annual one-day blitz where volunteers assemble at properties on Central Whidbey to repair and rehabilitate the owner-occupied homes of those who are physically or financially unable to do the work themselves.

During their first Workday, held last May 30, more than 60 Hearts & Hammers volunteers carried out repairs on 17 homes.

To solicit applicants with home-repair problems, as well as volunteers to work on the May 1, 2010 Workday and to receive financial contributions, the group has placed multi-purpose “birdhouse” boxes in several businesses and public offices around Coupeville.

Financial contributions may be placed in the slot on top of each box. In addition, anyone interested in volunteering to help with the 2010 Workday as well as homeowners with repair or rehabilitation projects they would like Hearts & Hammers to consider are encouraged to fill out one of the red post cards from the box and either mail it to Hearts & Hammers or place it in the box-top slot.
