Detectives are investigating a double shooting on Camano Island connected to a high-speed pursuit that ended in gunfire in Mukilteo Sunday, according to Island County Sheriff Mark Brown.

The suspect, who was shot multiple times by police, and one of his alleged victims were reported in critical condition at Harborview Medical Center Tuesday morning, according to the Everett Herald.

Camano Island resident Riley Ottersen, 34, allegedly shot a man and a woman while they were sitting in a car outside the woman’s home on Michelle Drive, Brown said. Witnesses in the home reported the shooting at 3:15 p.m.

The male victim, Bret Berlin, 44, of Camano Island, was shot in the face and neck area. He was transported to Harborview.

The woman, Tracy Renner, 45, was shot in the arm. She was treated at Skagit Valley Hospital and released.

Brown said the motive for the shooting was unknown, though investigators believed that the shooter and victims knew each other.

A witness provided the dispatcher and responding deputies with a description of the shooter and his car. Shortly afterward, a trooper with the Washington State Patrol spotted the suspect vehicle on Highway 532.

The driver led police on a high-speed chase southbound on Interstate-5 and eventually into Mukilteo.

Police were able to bump the car off the road in the 5300 block of 88th Street S.W. Multiple shots were fired and the suspect was struck, the Everett Herald reported.

Detectives with the Snohomish County Multiple Agency Response Team are investigating the police shooting.

Four officers, including two Snohomish County sheriff’s deputies, an officer with the Everett Police Department and a Washington State Patrol trooper, remain on paid administrative leave in keeping with standard procedure, the Herald reported.
