Flying out of the blocks in the season opener, the Oak Harbor High School boys and girls track teams both won a three-team meet and posted some of the state’s best marks at Marysville-Pilchuck Thursday, March 28.
The Oak Harbor boys beat M-P 86-55 and Meadowdale 101-40; and the girls topped the Tomahawks 93-56 and the Mavericks 110-34.
(Note: The following results are based upon those provided by host Marysville-Pilchuck. However, several heats of several events were mistakenly not timed, according to Oak Harbor coach Jay Turner, so placings may be inaccurate. The times provided, however, are correct.)
Jared Gray won the 300 hurdles in 42.29, the seventh fastest 3A time in the state this spring, and ran on the winning 4×400 team with Josh Cote, Ozell Jackson and Josiah Welch in 3:39.58, the sixth-best 3A time.
Tanner Walker won the javelin in 145-09, the ninth-best mark.
On the girls side, Claire Anderson won the triple jump (33-09) and high jump (4-10), the seventh- and ninth-best 3A marks respectively.
The 4×200 relay team of Alana Austin, Alora Caillier, Matti Miesle and Janae Payne won in 1:50.58, the seventh-best 3A time in the state.
Welch was a double individual winner for the boys (100, 12.52; 400, 54.48). Other firsts were recorded by Michael Lym (800, 2:14.27), Joseph Noland (discus, 131-02) and Jackson (triple jump, 37).
Kaitlyn Chelberg collected two wins for the girls, winning both hurdle events (100, 16.91; 300, 51.07). Deja Bunch (400, 1:07.28), Alex Smith (3,200, 12:59.26) and Samantha Hines (javelin, 88-01) were other winners.
Oak Harbor faces Cascade and Snohomish at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, March 31, at Wildcat Memorial Stadium.
