Archbishop Thomas Murphy completed its three-game sweep of Coupeville High School’s baseball team by defeating the Wolves 11-1 on the Wildcats’ diamond Friday, March 26.

Archbishop Murphy, the preseason favorites to win the Cascade Conference in the coaches’ poll, outscored Coupeville 38-4 in the series. The Wildcats set the tone early in each game, outscoring the Wolves 15-2 in the first inning.

Coupeville will try to reverse the trend when it begins this week’s series with Granite Falls at Sherman Field Monday, March 29, at 4 p.m. The Wolves (0-3, 2-3) will travel to Granite Falls (1-5) Wednesday, then the two team will return to Coupeville Friday.

ATM, who pounded out 12 hits to Coupeville’s two in the five-inning game Friday, scored three runs in the first inning and six in the third to put the game away.

Coupeville picked up its only run in the third when Chase Griffin scored on a wild pitch.

Chad Brookhouse hit a double to lead the Wolves’ offense.

Coach Willie Smith said, “Not a lot of positives. I thought Ian (Smith) pitched well, he competed and mixed it up fairly well. They are a very disciplined team of hitters and our defense, while only making one error, made too many mental errors.”

Smith added that Coupeville didn’t execute offensively “against a pitcher that we should have had no issues with.”

The Wolves missed on a couple of scoring opportunities, including getting only one run out of a bases loaded situation with the middle of the lineup up.
