Oak Harbor’s football team recorded the feat during the 2007 season and in 2008-09, it was the boys swim team that finished the home season undefeated.

On Tuesday, the Wildcats ran their record to 11-0 defeating Sedro-Woolley 133-33 and Burlington-Edison 118-48 in a three-way non-league meet at John Vanderzicht Memorial Pool.

In her first season as Oak Harbor’s head coach, Amy Nurvic praised team members for their efforts this year.

“We’ve had a great season,” she said. “The guys worked hard and they are a fun group to work with.”

The meet was the final time seniors Jesus Alvarado, Cory Blyther, Chris Cole, John Hu, Chris Rankin, Brice Vagt, Anthony Yockey and Jarrett Fryberger would appear in home competition, and all of the swimmers will be missed.

Hu, last year’s Class 4A state champion in the 200 individual medley, set a record this season by swimming state qualifying times in all eight individual events.

“It’s been a good four years for me,” he said. “Being on the high school swimming team has been one of the most memorable experiences of my high school career.”

Hu said he is planning on swimming the 200 individual medley once again at the state meet.

“I might alse try the 100 butterfly just to see what happens,” he said.

Hu said his future plans include attending a four-year university or college

Oak Harbor dominated Tuesday’s meet, winning all but three events.

The Wildcats also finished first, second and third in the the 200-meter freestyle and the 200-meter individual medley, and first and second in the 200 medley relay, the 200 freestyle relay and the 100 breaststroke.

In addition, sophomore Price Hu qualified for state competition winning the 100 butterfly in a time of 1:01.05.

Nurvic said the team has three meets remaining before the district.

“It’s going to be a tough meet against Marysville-Pilchuck,” she said. “They are usually pretty good depth-wise and they have a couple of fast guys. We might be able to surprise them.”
