Track: Oak Harbor girls first, boys third in three-team meet

The Oak Harbor girls finished first and the boys third in a three-team meet Wednesday, March 24, at Wildcat Memorial Stadium.

The local girls scored 88.5 points, defeating perennial power Stanwood (75.5) and Cascade (24).

Cascade captured the boys meet with 72 points, nipping Stanwood by a half point. Oak Harbor had 36.5 points.

Shantae Young and Allison Duvenez spearheaded the Oak Harbor girls win.

Young won three events (100 meters, 12.74; long jump, 18; and triple jump, 37-0.5) and ran on the winning 4×100 relay team with Janessa Ramos, Christina Alexander and Naomi Walker (50.19).

Duvenez grabbed both hurdle races (100, 17.03; 300, 48.1) and joined Maura McKole, Abby Leete and Adrianna Royal to win the 4×400 relay (4:25.34).

Oak Harbor also received wins from Walker in the 200 (26.12), Nicole Mowbray in the high jump (4-08) and Royal in the 800 (2:22.58).

Winners for the boys were Chris Opdyke in the 400 (55.87) and Matt Bolte in the 800 (2:00.78).

Head coach Jay Turner said, “The girls had a great day taking first and beating a good Stanwood squad. The boys did well considering that many of our varsity boys are either hurt or ineligible.”

Thursday, April 8, the Wildcats travel to Mariner with Meadowdale for a 3:30 meet.
