Archbishop Thomas Murphy’s Amber Manuel fired a two-hitter to lead the Wildcats to a 9-0 win over host Coupeville in fastpitch action Wednesday, May 4.
Alexis Trumbull rapped both Coupeville hits, one a triple.
Coach Jackie Calkins said, “Our bats are really what made the difference today. You can’t win a ball game against Archbishop Murphy with only two hits.”
The Wildcats (12-5, 12-3) scored three runs in both the third and fourth innings to put the game away. Manuel also led the ATM offense with two hits, including a triple and three RBI.
While the Coupeville offense struggled, Calkins liked the play of her defense: “For the first time all year, we had players making diving attempts to get to the ball.”
The defensive highlight, Calkins said, was a double play turned by third baseman Chevy Reyes and second baseman Madi Roberts.
Calkins added that first baseman Breeanna Messner and catcher Bessie Walstad “switched places mid-game and both did equally well in their second half positions.”
Coupeville (0-12, 0-11) goes to first-place Granite Falls (12-2, 11-2) Friday at 3:30 for a double header.
