A drug-and-alcohol counselor who was caught in a compromising position with a teenage client at Deception Pass Bridge is facing possible criminal charges, according to the Island County Sheriff’s Office.

Detectives uncovered what appeared to be a several-months-long sexual relationship between the 33-year-old woman and the 16-year-old boy, the sheriff’s office reported in a press release.

At 2:45 a.m. on Feb. 21, a deputy noticed a suspicious car parked at the bridge. Closer inspection revealed that a woman was sitting on the lap of a teenage boy in the passenger seat of the car.

Both occupants were clothed, but the deputy noticed what appeared to be a hickey on the boy’s neck, the sheriff’s office reported.

The deputy contacted the occupants. The woman was identified as Jamie Wright, a Marysville resident. The boy was an Anacortes resident, the press release states.

The deputy contacted the boy’s mother, who thought he was home in bed. She identified Wright as his drug-and-alcohol counselor at Northwest Recovery Center in Burlington.

Wright was taken into custody on suspicion of communicating with a minor for immoral purposes, booked and released pending further investigation. The boy was turned over to his mother.

Detectives obtained a search warrant to examine Wright’s cell phones as well as the alleged victim’s cell phone. An examination of the boy’s phone revealed evidence of a sexual relationship between he and Wright that may have been going on for months, the sheriff’s office reported.

The sheriff’s office reported that investigation is ongoing and additional information will be released when it becomes available. The Northwest Recovery Center has been notified of the information.
