The Oak Harbor boys golf team finished fourth Tuesday, April 12, at the Kayak Golf Course in the first of six Wesco North matches.
Host Stanwood won the 11-hole, par 45 match with 267 strokes. The Spartans were followed by Arlington (275), Marysville-Pilchuck (303), Oak Harbor (309) and Marysville Getchell (323). Everett did not qualify for a team score.
Stanwood’s Quinton Borseth took medalist honors with a 47, one stroke better than Oak Harbor freshman Haven Brown.
The Wildcats’ next best finish was Nick Whitley in 20th with a 61. Caleb Brookshier carded a 65, Rheeno Kwak 67 and Mathew Boyd 68.
“Kayak is a tough course and demands good tee shots,” coach David Smith said. “It started off with some rain and cold weather so it was really tough for the kids. This was the first or second time most of the team played this course, so I think they will get better there with some more experience.
“Haven played very well in very wet and cold conditions and a very demanding course. Overall, I think we took away some positive from this match and we know what to work on next time we are in Kayak.”
Oak Harbor hosts Glacier Peak, Shorecrest, Stanwood and Shorewood at 2 p.m. Friday, April 15, at the Whidbey Golf Club.
