An Oak Harbor robbery victim ended up hiding in a ditch after an unusual encounter March 2, according to court documents.

Jaquan R. Wilson, 26, the alleged would-be robber, was charged in Island County Superior Court March 5 with attempted robbery in the second degree.

The victim was walking home at about 3 a.m. when he noticed two men in front of him. One of the men, later identified as Wilson, stopped and asked the man if he was following them and if he was a cop; the man denied both accusations, according to the police report.

Wilson then allegedly told the man to give him everything in his pockets. When the victim refused, Wilson allegedly threatened to beat him up, the report states.

The man fled and hid in a ditch on Northeast Seventh Avenue. He called 911 on his cell phone.

The officer found Wilson in the area and detained him. Wilson claimed he was walking home from a downtown bar and that he was the one who had been attacked, the report states.

Wilson allegedly blew 0.184 on a portable breathalyzer.
