Hannold not ready for county seat | Letter

Editor,

After reviewing commissioner candidate Rick Hannold’s campaign website, I came to the conclusion that he is not ready to assume that position.

I can see why fellow Republicans endorsed Karla Jacks rather than Hannold.

His website lists three items that he supports, and the first two are Whidbey Island Naval Air Station and the Second Amendment.

Apparently, Hannold does not realize that he is not running for a federal office. A county commissioner has no official responsibility vis-à-vis the U.S. Defense Department or enforcement of the United States Constitution.

His lack of knowledge concerning municipal government is glaringly obvious.

On his site, he states that his goal as county commissioner is to “listen to the voter.” But he has already shown his disdain for the voice of the electorate by declaring that he wouldn’t have supported the establishment of marijuana businesses in Island County, regardless of the fact that we voters voted in favor of doing exactly that.

His position also contradicts his claim to be supportive of small businesses.

The contrast is striking.

Karla Jacks is far superior to Hannold in terms of relevant experience and knowledge. Look for yourself on their websites.

Read and compare.
