There will be plenty of treats and not too many tricks Halloween night in Oak Harbor.
Hundreds of costume-clad children will head to Pioneer Way Friday night to trick or treat at local businesses.
It provides a safe place for children to partake in the Halloween tradition.
“It’s a good thing to do,” said Wendy Kettlewell, executive director of Island Thrift, which is sponsoring the trick-or-treating night. “I used to take my daughter down there.”
Kids can start wandering through downtown Oak Harbor at 5 p.m., Oct. 31. Trick or treating continues to 7 p.m. Pioneer Way will be cordoned off from vehicle traffic.
In other ghoulish holiday festivities, Frightville, the haunted house at the Boys and Girls Club of Oak Harbor, continues tonight, Oct. 29, through Halloween night.
The haunted house opened Oct. 24. Boys and Girls Club board member Duncan Chalfant said around 420 people attended Frightville last weekend. That number includes a record turnout for the “lights on” matinee geared toward little children.
Chalfant said Frightville has raised approximately $2,000 with another weekend to go.
Frightville takes place from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday and from 7 p.m. to midnight on Halloween. Admission on Wednesday and Thursday costs $7 and admission on Halloween costs $8.
For a wetter scary experience, just head up Whidbey Avenue toward the John Vanderzicht Memorial Pool and paddle through its Haunted Swamp Excursion. Three dollars will allow a person to tour through the fog and discover all sorts of interesting surprises. The excursion goes from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
The Oak Harbor Library is hosting a Halloween costume party at its Regatta Drive location. Come dressed in a costume and try to win a prize.
Several churches in the area offering events Friday as well.
Calvary Chapel of Oak Harbor is holding a Harvest Fest from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. and Oak Harbor Church of the Nazarene is inviting residents to “Trunk or Treat” which begins at 6 p.m. at 1100 W Whidbey Ave.
In Coupeville, the town’s churches are teaming up to offer Hillside Happenin’, which takes place at the Community Bible Church, 502 NE Otis St.
Back in Oak Harbor, the VFW is holding a Halloween party and Summer Hill Assisted Living is holding an open house.
