Oak Harbor’s Shantae Young won the long and triple jumps and finished second in the 100-meter dash, to lead the Wildcat girls track team to a tie for fifth place at the Class 4A District 1 track and field championships held Wednesday, May 20, and Friday, May 22, at Shoreline Stadium.

The junior recorded distances of 17-06.25 in the long jump and 36-04.00 in the triple jump to bring home the only Wildcat gold medals at the meet.

Young had a time of 12.72 in the 100 to advance to state competition in this event as well.

The top three competitors in each event advance to the Class 4A state championship meet at Mount Tahoma High School Thursday through Saturday, May 28-30.

Marysville-Pilchuck won the girls team championship with 120 points.

Oak Harbor and Arlington scored 64 points each to finish in a tie for fifth.

Allison Duvenez is also headed for the state meet, thanks to her second-place finish in the 300-meter hurdles in a time of 47.29.

Unfortunately in the boys half of the meet, the Wildcats will not be sending any athletes to the state meet.

Oak Harbor scored 16 points to finish 13th. Jackson High School won the team title with 150 points.

The best individual finish was by Stephen Lewis, who came in fifth in the 200 meters with a time of 22.92. He also placed sixth in the 100 at 11.35 and was a member of the fifth-place finishing 4×100 relay team along with Greg Goebel, Jason Curles and Josiah Miller in a time of 44.03.

Goebel placed seventh in the triple jump going 41-06.75, with teammates Michael Mack, Rashaad Smith and Dillon Peterson coming in 12th, 15th and 17th, respectively.

Goebel, Josh Duhrkopf, Lewis and Smith were members of the eighth-place finishing 4×400 relay team.

Duhrkopf also ran to a seventh-place finish in the 800 meters crossing the finish line in a time of 1:59.62.

Freshman sprinter Christina Alexander was eighth in the 100 in a time of 13.42 and Janessa Ramos finished sixth in the 200, clocking in at 27.25.

Ramos, Alexander and Young teamed with Maura McKole to place fourth in the 4×100 relay at 50.56, and Hope Thompson, Ramos, McKole and Alexander were sixth in the 4×200 relay event at 1:50.24.

Thompson placed 10th in the triple jump and Adrianna Royal ran a time of 2:24.43 good for seventh in the 800 meters.

Amanda Alvarado placed 12th in the shot put and teammate Dominique Jackson was 14th.

Alicia Christianson finished in eighth place in the pole vault at 8-0.00.

Thursday’s preliminaries at Mount Tahoma begin at 4:30 p.m.
