As the Seattle Seahawks prepare to embark on another postseason run toward a Super Bowl, fans on Whidbey Island will have at least two chances to demonstrate their support.
The first of two rallies put on by the Whidbey Island Sea Hawkers Booster Club is taking place Sunday, Jan. 4, at the Coupeville Wharf.
Participants are asked to arrive at Coupeville Elementary School at noon decked out in Seahawks garb, then walk as a group along Main Street to the wharf.
About 80 fans attended the Coupeville rally last season during the Seahawks’ Super Bowl title journey and more are expected Sunday, including Oak Harbor’s Rob and Sherri Brown, who will arrive in the Seahawks’ “Fanbulance” won in a raffle by Coupeville’s Sam Myers.
“We got them a parking spot up front by the wharf,” said Jason Park, one of the event’s organizers.
Sunday’s rally is expected to last until around 1:30 p.m.
A second rally is tentatively being planned for Saturday, Jan. 10, at the Deception Pass Bridge.
That is the date that the Seahawks face their first playoff opponent, which won’t be determined until this weekend.
“I don’t see them losing to anybody,” said Kory Dyer, president of the Whidbey Island Sea Hawkers, one of 47 chapters of the Seattle Sea Hawkers official booster club. “I’m going with a repeat.”
Park said he sent out about 200 social media invitations for Sunday’s rally then saw that number quickly balloon to nearly 1,000.
“I’m sure the Skagit Sea Hawkers will be there too,” he said.
Ninety-eight members currently make up the Whidbey Island Sea Hawkers, who officially formed last spring and will be meeting once a month at Flyers Restaurant & Brewery in Oak Harbor starting Jan. 10.
Park said he anticipates there will much to cheer about again regarding the Seahawks as he predicts another Super Bowl championship.
Seattle has earned the No. 1 seed again in the NFC, meaning the Seahawks get to host all of their playoff games.
“I think they have a real good shot,” he said. “If you asked me a few weeks back, I would have said it was going to be tough to do it. It seems like the stars have aligned.”
