An Oak Harbor man was arrested as part of the Anacortes Police Department’s online sting operation targeting sexual predators.
Detectives with the Anacortes police posed as a 13-year-old girl on a social networking site during the operations, which was a collaboration with the Skagit County Prosecutor’s Office and the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, according to Capt. Lou D’Amelio with the Anacortes Police Department.
During the first week of November, an ad placed on the website for about 12 hours generated more than 100 responses.
“Many of the people responding to the ad almost immediately began to ask sexual questions and several wanted to meet with the girl for the purpose of a sexual contact,” D’Amelio wrote in a statement.
A 24-year-old Oak Harbor man was arrested and booked into Skagit County Jail. He allegedly texted numerous times describing sex acts he wished to perform with the would-be 13-year-old child and requested that she send nude photos of herself, according to the statement.
A 49-year-old Mount Vernon man traveled to Anacortes to meet with the girl; evidence found on him confirmed his intent to have sex with her, police allege.
D’Amelio reported that additional arrests are expected.
