Editor,

I first met Bob Severns 43 years ago when he was a title officer for Island Title. He worked his way up to president of that company. During that time Bob always volunteered to help organize and run community functions and events.

During the years he was president of the title company, he made sure his company supported, both in time and financially, community events.

During the 1991 base closure efforts Bob worked tirelessly to get the base off the closure list. He contributed materially to the base being removed from the list. He has always stepped forward to help with efforts supporting the Navy, whether it’s collecting signatures in front of Walmart to offset anti Navy efforts, putting up pro Navy signs or volunteering for the annual Navy picnic.

As a city council member, he has accompanied the NAS Whidbey Task Force on their annual visits to the Pentagon. During those visits, Bob prepared well and was ready and knowledgeable for the meetings with the various admirals and civilian Navy leadership.

His many years of working with local Navy members as a business person and more recently his work as a city council member allows him to be extremely knowledgeable of Navy issues specifically as they relate locally, and Bob will be well prepared to continue to represent the close relationship between the City and the Navy as mayor of Oak Harbor.

Bob has the energy, stamina, experience and drive to do an outstanding job as mayor of Oak Harbor. I urge you to vote Bob Severns to be the next mayor of Oak Harbor.
