Whidbey Island’s own Saratoga Chamber Orchestra is pleased to announce “UFF DA! A Scandinavian Spectacular,” presented Monday, Feb. 14 in Oak Harbor and Feb. 15 in Langley. The SCO, now celebrating its fourth season under the artistic direction of conductor Legh W. Burns, will be performing an evening of Nielsen, Larsson, Sibelius and Grieg.
“If you’ve ever heard the Grieg Piano Concerto, seen a performance of ‘The Song of Norway,’ or heard any of the stirring music of Jean Sibelius, you won’t want to miss this concert,” Burns said. “You’ll be smiling and singing these melodies long after the performance.”
The special guest soloist for the evening will be pianist Knut Erik Jensen. Born in Hell, Norway, Jensen studied accordion from a young age and began to study the piano after hearing a performance of Grieg’s A minor Piano Concerto. He received his musical training at the conservatory in Trondheim and has since thrived as a concertizing soloist throughout Europe and the U.S.
The concerts will be held at 7 p.m. on both Feb. 14 and 15. The Monday show will be at Oak Harbor High School and the Tuesday show will be at South Whidbey High School in Langley. General admission tickets are $20 adult and $18 senior/military. Students 18 and under are admitted free (under 14 must be accompanied by a paying adult). Tickets are available in Coupeville at Bayleaf, in Oak Harbor at Bayleaf and ClickMusic, in Langley at Moonraker Books and in Freeland at Bookbay. Cash/check and MC/V/Discover will be accepted at the door.
