Perhaps a better way of looking at this septic issue is for the 10 percent to stop paying for a bogus program. One-hundred percent non-compliance of a bogus, feel-good program is exceptionally fair. Unfortunately, like the cure-all-miracle elixir sold by snake oil salesmen, there are some who continue to believe anything.

As the saying goes, “A fool and his money are soon parted.”

The controversy and argument is far from over, and will continue until state and local officials provide substantiated proof to the public (not the dog-and-pony show that occurred Sept. 14) that this program is something other than dung. This “program” will get changed even if it requires replacing the entire Island County Board of Health, to include all three Island County Commissioners, Oak Harbor Mayor Slowik, Anne Tarrant, Capt. Thralls, and its Health Services Director, Environmental Health Director, Community & Family Health Services Director, Supervisor, Assessment and Healthy Communities Administrative Services Director, the Health Officer and the Accounting Supervisor in the process.

Mr. Lauderdale’s presentation makes a compelling argument opposing mandatory septic inspections. Island County and the state of Washington are not capable of supporting their position.

Mr. Lauderdale’s presentation is for public viewing on YouTube. His presentation consists of two parts. The first part is his full presentation given to the public on March 10. The second part is the aftermath of a condensed version he gave to the Island County Board of Health on March 15. Mr. Higman, Mr. Dean, Ms. Homola and Helen Price Johnson gave stellar performances.
