For the second year in a row, members of the Coupeville High School tennis team dominated the Olympic League 1A tennis tournament by taking first and second in singles.
Sebastian Davis and Connor McCormick finished 1-2 at Chimacum Saturday, Oct. 24, and qualified for the district tournament at Tacoma’s Sprinker Center Thursday, Oct. 29.
Davis finished second to then-senior Aaron Curtin in last fall’s league singles tournament.
Davis and McCormick will be joined at district by Joey Lippo and Will Nelson, who took third in doubles.
The top four singles players and doubles teams earned district berths.
In other singles action at district, Coupeville’s Nick Etzell lost 8-4 in the single-elimination first round.
In doubles, Coupeville’s No. 1 team, John McClarin and Joseph Wedekind, fell 8-4 in the first round, as did the duo of Jimmy Myers and Lilan Sekigawa (8-1).
Davis defeated McCormick 8-5 in the singles title match after winning 8-3 and 8-2 in earlier rounds.
McCormick cruised to the finals with 8-2 and 8-1 wins. After losing to Davis, he defeated Jonny Rogers of Chimacum 8-1 in the match for second and third.
Lippo and Nelson opened the tournament with an 8-0 win, then fell 8-1. They split their next two contests (8-3 and 8-4) to claim third.
