North Whidbey Aquatic Club’s John Hu captured four events at the Kamloops Classic of 20 teams and over 500 athletes in the Canada Games Pool June 3 to 5.

As a team, the Aquajets swam to 80 percent personal bests in the morning prelims and matched the rate in the finals.

Hu reached the finals in every event (15-and-over boys division) and won the 400 individual medley (4:48.53), 100 butterfly (59.45), 100 breaststroke (1:11.51), and 200 IM (2:16.22).

Other Aquajet event winners included 8-year-old Lucas Tack, who took the boys 10-and-under 100 fly in a team record 1:40.61; and Ciara Hu, who captured the girls 15-and-older 100 fly in a team record and Senior Sectional-qualifying time of 1:06.73.

Other team record setters included 10-year-old Ethan Tack (200 free, 2:33.05; 100 fly, 1:14.95; 100 breast, 1:31.10; and 200 IM, 2:51.41) and 10-year-old Olivia Tungate (50 fly, 34.34; and 100 fly, 1:14.87).

Tungate also recorded new Age Group Sectional qualifying times in the 50 fly (34:34), 200 free (2:36.15) and 200 IM (2:54.53).

Aquajets who earned 100 percent personal records in the preliminaries were Mariel Empinado, Michael Johnson, Michael McGinnis, Hannah Schroeder, Erica Sugatan, Ethan Tack, Harrison Tack, Tungate, Brett Vagt, Lauren Vagt and Cullen Wood.

One-hundred percent PRs in the finals came from Ciara Hu, Johnson, Ella Schroeder, Emily Schroeder and Brett Vagt.

Those who swam to 100 percent relay PRs were Empinado, Price Hu, Angela Johnson, Michael Johnson, McGinnis, Ella Schroeder, Emily Schroeder, Hannah Schroeder, Sugatan, Ethan Tack, Harrison Tack, Lucas Tack, Tungate, Brett Vagt, Lauren Vagt, Molly Vagt, Cullen Wood and Toren Wood.

Gold times were recorded by Empinado, Angela Johnson, Michael Johnson, McGinnis, Ella Schroeder, Hannah Schroeder, Sugatan, Lucas Tack, Brett Vagt, Lauren Vagt and Toren Wood.

Pacific Northwest Swim qualifying marks were earned by Emily Schroeder, Harrison Tack, Ethan Tack and Cullen Wood; Age Group marks by Tungate and Ethan Tack; and a Senior Sectional mark by Ciara Hu.

NWAC hosts the Round Robin Invitational June 24 to 26. It will field a team of 60 athletes against teams from Anacortes, Marysville and Snohomish in a unique four-way dual meet with a championship final format.

The North Whidbey Aquatic Club is a competitive swimming program of the North Whidbey Park and Recreation District. It includes swimmers of all abilities and ages from 6 through college.

Tryouts occur Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays at the city pool from 4:45 to 5:30 p.m. New swimmers should be able to swim a length of the pool in freestyle and backstroke.
