Coupeville High School basketball player Aaron Trumbull suffered a concussion during Friday night’s home game with Archbishop Murphy and was taken to Whidbey General Hospital, but “should be okay,” according to head coach Anthony Smith.

Smith talked to Trumbull’s mother, Shelli Trumbull, Saturday morning and she said Aaron was released after observation at the hospital and spent the night at home.

She told Smith Aaron would be “OK” and he is “good to go.” Trumbull was defending on a fast break when he was injured.

The Archbishop Murphy player pump faked and Trumbull jumped for the block as the ATM player cut underneath. Trumbull went parallel and hit the floor head first.

“It was horrific,” Smith said. Trumbull was motionless for a moment and quickly surrounded by his coaches and parents. Slight movement by Trumbull helped ease their fears, Smith said. Soon he was checked by paramedics and taken from the gym on a gurney to Whidbey General.

Smith said Trumbull will most likely be out 10 days to two weeks.

“It depends on what the doctors say,” Smith said.

Archbishop Murphy won 68-28.
