Ethan Tack (10-and-under boys) and John Hu (15-and-older boys) of the North Whidbey Aquatic Club won their respective division’s high-point honors at the June 25-27 West Coast Invitational Swim Meet at the King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way.
Tack won four events and Hu three; each scored in the top eight in every event. Tack set team records in the 50 (40.35) and 100 (1:23.31) backstrokes.
Other Aquajet individual event winners included Price Hu and Laura Rosen.
Earning new Pacific Northwest Swimming (PNS) Championships qualifying standards were Ryan Cuajunco in the boys 200 (2:43.70) and 400 (5:53.87) individual medleys; Emily Schroeder in the girls 13-14 100 breast (1:28.41); and Marissa Morris in the girls 11-12 800 free (10:57.49).
Morris also achieved a new Age Group Sectional standard in the girls 12-year-old 400 free (5:06.77). And Tack qualified for the Western Zone Championships in the boys 10-and-under 100 fly (1:23.82).
Finishing the meet with 100 percent individual PR’s were Cuajunco, Jacob Jepsen, Morris, Ethan Tack, Harrison Tack, Olivia Tungate, and Cole Weinstein. One-hundred percent relay PR’s were obtained by Ciara Hu, Josh Jepsen, Emily Schroeder, Hannah Schroeder and Akasha Trisler.
In addition to Tack’s team records, Ciara Hu established two new Aquajet marks in the girls 15-and-over 100 (1:07.74) and 200 (2:26.64) flys and swam the leadoff leg of the record-setting girls 15-and-over 200 free relay (2:00.09), which included Karina Concepcion, Tori Nickerson, and Trisler.
Weinstein won NWAC’s Swimmer of the Meet honors with nine PR’s, five heat winners, an average improvement of 3 seconds per 100 meters swum and commanding racing.
NWAC next competes at the Starlight Invitational in Wenatchee, July 9-11, where it will field a team of 33 athletes.
The North Whidbey Aquatic Club (NWAC) is a competitive swimming program of the North Whidbey Park and Recreation District. It includes swimmers of all abilities and ages from 6 through college. Tryouts occur Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays at the city pool from 4:45 to 5:30 p.m. New swimmers should be able to swim a length of the pool in freestyle and backstroke.
