Dejon Devroe in the 800 meters and the girls 4×100 relay both qualified for the finals in their events by placing in the top eight in the preliminaries at the state 3A track meet Friday, May 29, at Tacoma’s Mount Tahoma High School.
Devroe won his heat and posted the second fastest time with a 1:54.59. He will race in the finals at 9:50 a.m. Saturday.
The girls relay team of Janae Payne, Alora Caillier, Jenna Cooley and Matti Miesle was a surprise finalist.
The Wildcats entered the state meet with the 17th-best time in the event but qualified fifth and placed third in their heat with a 50.2. Oak Harbor finished ahead of the two teams, Arlington and Edmonds-Woodway, which defeated it in the district finals last week. The seven teams behind Oak Harbor in the preliminaries were within two-tens of a second of the Wildcats.
The relay finals are 12:20 p.m. Saturday.
John Rodeheffer, who finished third in the 1,600 Thursday, will run in the 3,200 finals at 1:55 Saturday.
