Behind several record-setting performances, the North Whidbey Aquatic Club won its Triple Pentathlon over six other teams at John Vanderzicht Pool May 4 to 6.

The Aquajets rolled up 856 points, the Bainbridge Island Swim Club took second with 716 and the Penticton (B.C.) Kisu were third with 443.

NWAC was led by triple pentathlon winners Kelly Huffer (girls 11-12) and Laura Rosen (girls 15-and-over) and double-pentathlon winner Jerrin Concepcion (boys 9-10).

Huffer won all 15 of her individual events and set team records in the 200 fly (2:35.36), 200 back (2:34.03) and 200 breast (3:04.21).

Rosen won five individual events, including three on the final day. She swam a team record 5:09.45 in the 400 individual medley to seize the triple pentathlon lead in her final event.

Rosen also set team records in the 100 free (1:01. 69), 200 fly (2:24.40) and 200 free (2:14.00).

Concepcion won five individual events and set personal records in every event including a Western Zone Championships qualifying time in the 100 back (1:23.38).

Other team records were set by Emily Huffer, the girls open 800 free and and 400 medley relays (Ciara Hu, Emily Schroeder, Ella Schroeder, Lauren Vagt, Rosen), the girls 8U 200 free and 200 medley relays (Ashleigh Merrill, MacKenzie Rauen, Caitlin Dennen, Casey Cabigting), the boys 9-10 400 medley relay (Concepcion, Lawrence Zapanta, Bruce Vagt, Shamus Warden), the girls 9-10 400 free and 400 medley relays (Christy Thompson, Patty Miessner, Frances Empinado, Maria Bishai) and the boys 11-12 400 free and 400 medley relays (Kenny Morrow, Carlos Bishai, Noah Schroeder, Brannigan Vogt).

Additional highlights included 22 others who swam 100 percent PRs: Carlos Bishai, Taliah Black, Cedric Cabigting, JD Cabigting, Carl Davis, Trina Desquitado, Sophia Dickinson, Sydney Dickinson, Micah Geist, Angela Johnson, Jeron Kosbar, Merrill, Miessner, Morrow, Jillian Pape, Andrea Ruben, Erica Sugatan, Maira Sulin, Molly Vagt, Andrew Vogt, Warden and Cole Weinstein.

Those who completed double pentathlon (for 10-and-under swimmers) or triple pentathlon (for 11-and-older swimmers) were Concepcion, Carl Davis, Nicholas Davis, Empinado, Joe Gorman, Samantha Hines, Allison Hoffmire, Hu, Emily Huffer, Kelly Huffer, Angela Johnson, Michael Johnson, Tina Judd, Jeron  Kosbar, Merrill, Miessner, Pape, Rauen, Autumn Robinson, Rosen, Ella Schroeder, Emily Schroeder, Hannah Schroeder, Noah Schroeder, Sugatan, Christy Thompson, Olivia Tungate, Bruce Vagt, Lauren Vagt, Molly Vagt and Warden.

Bruce Vagt added a Gold cut.

Individual pentathlon winners were Josh Jepsen, Rosen, Morrow, Kelly Huffer, Concepcion and Merrill.

The RelayBig award went to Geist for 5-for-5 PRs, a 10 second drop per 50 and huge cuts in three other swims.

Sugatan took Swimmer of the Meet honors with a 15-for-15 PR effort in individual events and 5-for-5 in relays; she dropped an average of 15 seconds per 100.

Participating in their first swim meet were Christina Fortune, Makaio Hedhli, Rachelle Lara and Hayden Crossland.

The Aquajets compete next at the Spring Thunderbird May 18 to 20 at Anacortes’ Fidalgo Pool, where they will field a team of 45 athletes.

The North Whidbey Aquatic Club is a competitive swimming program of the North Whidbey Park and Recreation District. It includes swimmers of all abilities and ages from 6 through college.

Tryouts occur Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays at the city pool from 4:45 to 5:30 p.m. New swimmers should be able to swim a length of the pool in freestyle and backstroke. The first two weeks are free.
