June Adrian passed into the arms of her Lord and Savior on July 23, 2006, at the age of 57. She was a loving wife, mother, and friend, whose faith and compassion touched the lives of many.
Born March 20, 1949 in Dighton, Mass., to Nolan and Ruth McClurg, she moved with her family to the Seattle area in 1950, to Tacoma in 1957, and then to Oak Harbor in 1966. After graduating salutatorian from Oak Harbor High School in 1967, she attended Seattle Community College, where she received her license in Practical Nursing.
In January 1969, she married her high school sweetheart from Tacoma, James Adrian. She resided with him in Mississippi, Tacoma, and Nebraska while he was in the Air Force, then in Kennewick, finally settling in Marysville where they have lived for 28 years, except for a year spent as missionaries in the Philippines.
June delighted in being a stay-at-home mom for her children. She loved chauffeuring them around to various activities and helping where needed, serving as a Campfire leader, room mother, and piano player. She was teased about being the “June Cleaver” of the neighborhood, always ready with a batch of fresh-baked cookies. She received great joy from her ministry to children through Sunday School music, VBS, and Child Evangelism Fellowship.
For the last 12 years, June volunteered at Grandview Retirement Village in Marysville, leading singing and worship on Wednesday mornings with her dear friends there. Also, for the past 10 years, she enjoyed being part-time pianist for morning worship at St. Paul United Methodist Church in Everett.
June treasured the deep relationships that bloomed from Bible studies and spiritual growth groups at Marysville United Methodist Church and appreciated the wonderful people and friendships that have been such a support to her and her family during her illness.
June was preceded in death by her father, The Rev. Dr. Nolan J. McClurg who served as pastor of Oak Harbor United Methodist Church from 1966 to 1971.
June is survived by her husband, Jim; children, Jennifer Adrian of Everett, Christopher (Lynn) Adrian of Tacoma, Renee (Lando) Adrian Valdes of Everett, and Lisa Adrian; grandchildren, Savanna and Kalysta Adrian, and Levi Valdes; foster daughter, Laura Harrison; mother, Ruth McClurg Rapp of Edmonds; brothers Phil (Lana) McClurg of Tucson, Jim (Vicki) McClurg of Edmonds, and Scott McClurg of Japan; numerous nieces and nephews; and her beloved lifelong friend, Karen Brau of Tacoma.
A celebration of June’s life will be held Saturday, July 29, at 2 p.m. at Marysville United Methodist Church, with a reception following the service. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Providence Hospice of Snohomish County: 425-261-4800.
