Sheridan LeRoy “Lee” Dolvin died Oct. 6, 2009 at Careage of Whidbey, Coupeville, at the age of 84. Lee was born in Los Banos, Calif., on April 30, 1925 to Theodore and Evangeline Dolvin.
Lee graduated from high school in Eureka, Calif., and then entered the U.S. Navy during World War II. He completed flight school and flew Navy PBY’s during the war and then moved on to PBM’s. He was married to Virginia C. Quimby in Oakland, Calif., on Dec. 22, 1949.
Lee’s Navy career took him to England, Japan, Corpus Christi, Bermuda and Whidbey Island, arriving in Oak Harbor in 1966. He retired from the Navy in 1969 as a lieutenant and began a second career as an investment counselor for the Mutual Service Corp. He retired again in 1999.
Lee was a lifetime member and Past Worshipful Master of the F&M Camanio Lodge 19 of Stanwood, the Oak Harbor Elks Lodge 2362, the Whidbey Golf and Country Club and the Retired Military Officers Association.
Lee is survived by his wife Virginia “Ginny” Dolvin at the family home and by two daughters, Susan Dolvin and husband Alan Harris of Olympia and Sherry Morford and husband Mike of Camarillo, Calif., and by four grandchildren.
Lee had a lifelong passion for golf. At the age of 13, Lee shot his first hole-in-one. He also obtained the rank of Eagle Scout.
Lee requested no formal funeral services be conducted. Cremation was held with burial at sea to follow under the auspices of the U.S. Navy. Memorials may be made to the T. S. Dolvin Memorial Scholarship Fund, Mason Bldg., Stanwood, WA 98292. Arrangements are entrusted to Burley Funeral Chapel, Oak Harbor.
