James Donald Cadwell, 75, died at Whidbey Island Manor, Oak Harbor, Aug. 2, 2004. He was born in Shawnee, Okla., July 18, 1929, to Donald and Eula Cadwell.
Jim was raised in Los Angeles and Orange County, Calif. He was a gifted athlete. He was an amateur boxer for many years, boxing at Olympic Auditorium in Orange County, Bakersfield, Tucson and Los Angeles. He had a lifelong love of flying, obtaining his private pilot’s license at a young age. He also loved boats, operating sailboats, powerboats and speedboats. He was an avid water skier and loved to build and race modified hot rods.
Jim owned and operated a catering business in the Los Angeles area for several years with a fleet of six trucks. He then drove long haul for Hughes Trucking Company for many years. Jim’s last job in California, was long haul driving for wineries in Sonoma Valley.
Jim loved his family and especially his grandchildren. He would always be there for family in a time of need and enjoyed helping people in general. He made friends everywhere he went and made friends very easily. He had a deep religious faith.
Three children survive Jim: James D. Cadwell. Jr. of Portland, Ore.; David S. Cadwell and wife Donna of Oak Harbor and Sharon Jeanne Cadwell of Bellingham and former wife Jeanne Mary Cadwell of Palm Springs, Calif. Six grandchildren, Daniel and Charmaine Cadwell of Oak Harbor, Todd, Curtis and Kevin Cadwell of Bellingham, and Jefferey Cadwell of Orange County, Calif.
Jim requested no formal funeral services be conducted. Cremation was held with private family inurnment to follow. Arrangements are under the direction of Burley Funeral Chapel, Oak Harbor, Washington.
